Name – Fadumo

Status prior to Jobs Fair – Unemployed

LJF – June 2019

Position – Nurse

From Somalia, Fadumo initially relocated to Europe because of the troubles back home and is now a resident in Britain.

She recently graduated, completing her Master’s in Management and Development, Social Health Care and was looking for work. A qualified Midwife since 2011, having brought over 110 babies into the world, Fadumo is currently trying to get NMC registration to work in nursing and midwifery in Britain.

She saw the London Jobs Fair advertised on Eventbrite and decided to come along. At the event, she spoke with St Georges Hospital who asked her to attend an open day the next day at the hospital, which she did.

She really enjoyed the open day as it gave her an introduction to the hospital, the opportunity to speak to staff in different departments and a tour of the hospital itself. She then had an interview and assessment with a positive outcome – a conditional offer of work as a Nurse in their Neurology Department. Now all she needs to do is pass her IELTS exam to secure her pin registration number and can start work.

Go there with an open mind and also be prepared – with questions to ask employers and your current CV. The atmosphere at the event was good – I got a positive vibe and was so happy to meet St Georges – the induction day was amazing. I feel really positive about my next steps.’
